We went up to Boston for my daughter's birthday yesterday. On the way back right now. Aside from the gifts, our present to her was to clean her room and the kitchen in anticipation of her boyfriend's mother coming there today. We did a very nice job. It looks nice and we found some missing stuff as well.
There are about a dozen hotels near her apartment, so we always stay in whatever hotel has the best rates. This time, the winner was the Sheraton, which is not a great hotel but is very convenient to all kinds of things. It's connected to a series of shopping malls and bridges to other hotels. You can walk about a half mile without going outside. It also has dozens of meeting rooms and this go round those rooms were being used by the Dwarf Athletic Association of America, which I guess is a subgroup of the Little People of America.
We were in a very small minority (don't snicker) in the hotel. The whole place was set up for this large and very fit-looking group of dwarves and their families. It seemed unconscionably rude to take pictures, even surreptitiously, but all of the reception desks had platforms in front of them, and the sight of a 6 foot-tall guy towering over the receptionist and having to bend way over to sign in was weirdly entertaining.
We had a nice afternoon just hanging out and then a very good birthday dinner. Plus, when we got back to our room, we realized that what looked merely like a view of a big rooftop at night had a clear view of the Charles, where people had stood in line for hours to watch the fireworks.
Not too bad all told. Now time to get back home.
